Around the crater

After a short but steep ascent, you reach the edge of the 8x12 km crater, with this diameter already a Caldera. Along the edge leads a path that only challenges once or twice with ascents and descents on old volcanic ash. The material is so slippery that downhill the bottom of your trousers is almost the easiest means of transport. The highest point is at 2700 meters.

On the way there, I learned that hiking has only become popular in the last few years, but more and more people want to get out into nature. A sign of increasing urbanization and prosperity. There are two types of hikers: some go because of nature, the fresh air and the view, the others because of the sporting challenge. Our group has both types, which is quickly noticeable: The sporting half I see only twice: in the parking lot in front of the entrance and at the first stop on the crater rim.
