Hard nut

macadaniaMacadamia nuts in the shell are about two to three times the size of hazelnuts in the shell. The nut itself is about the same size, so there is a lot of shell. And it is hard. The nutcracker I found, to my amazement, in one of the chick drawers quickly surrendered. The pipe wrench was no help either. So next came the hammer. The kitchen counter didn't seem like a good surface, so I moved to the front of my house onto the cement floor of the veranda. That went better, only the round nuts are difficult to hold in place. The solution was the stairs, where the cement is already a bit old and crumbling. One of the holes was the right size and I could open the nuts with one or two hammer blows each. Then they were ready for the Macadamia-white chocolate cookies.
