Cooking lesson


Ratatouille with rice was on the menu. My two students, both interns and bachelors, were a little surprised about the number of different vegetables and that no meat went into the pot. In Nyahururu, the tomatoes and onions are usually added to the rice and the carrots to the white cabbage or the lentils. People seem to stick to their recipes, other combinations of the same ingredients are not very common. My former house-mate, for example, was amazed at what you can do with potatoes: fried potatoes, gnocchi, "gschellti", "rösti", casserole with various vegetables, baked with rosemary etc.
